                 Closes for “2008” Season

             Due to Deteriorating Foundation

             & Water Damage to the Building!

·        The primary purpose of the Historical Society is the preservation

of  the irreplaceable collection  of  artifacts.    Right now it is in

      jeopardy due to the needs  of   the  building.    We  have serious

      problems  with  a  deteriorating   foundation and  water  damage

      to the building.    The consensus of the Historical Society Board

      and Officers is to close the museum for the “2008” season.

·        The top priority is the safety issue.  We need to be sure the building

is totally safe for our visitors and volunteers.   Many of the artifacts

in the front of the building (both floors) need to be removed to a safe

place,  archivally stored with proper labeling.  Also, it is seen as a good

time to do a much needed updated inventory.

·        Finally, we need to look at the direction of the Historical Society and

      Museum.     The cost for repairs has been estimated  around  $25,000.

      We are just in our planning stages.  We have many questions and options

      which need to be addressed.

·        Future postings to this web site will address how to contribute.   In the meantime for the HS,   we are  working on a  community and member

It is important to secure the roots of the Historical Society.  Just because we deem it

necessary  to close the Museum, we will be busy with many exciting programs in the

Community this summer.  Please be sure to check our Schedule of Events Calendar.
