Special Town Board Meeting held January 29, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at the Town Hall in Schroon Lake N.Y. Present: Town Supervisor: Cathy Moses Councilpersons: Roger Friedman, Clara Phibbs and Mark Whitney Town Clerk: Patricia Savarie Also Present: See attached The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. with a Pledge to the Flag. Supervisor Moses stated that they were all meeting to discuss the problem with stones in the water line by the Bank and Community Church (Hydrant 321). Supervisor Moses apologized that Matt Abatto from CHA could not make the meeting but would be able to attend on February 12, 2009 at 6 P.M if we needed to meet with him. Bill Tribou, Commissioner for the Schroon Lake Fire Company, stated that after a fire drill they conducted in October the men were having trouble getting pressure from the hydrants. Bill stated if the Town ever experienced a big fire in town that the hydrants would not be able to handle it at the present time. Matt Abatto had written a letter to Supervisor Moses and understood that stones, asphalt chips, gravel and wood fragments have been evident in the Town’s water system during fire fighting drills. This material has damaged equipment associated with the fire truck. During fire drills, the Fire Department may have up to 2-3 pumper trucks running at a time. Dave Clark stated that this could be up to 2,000 gallons per minute per truck. At these times, the Town experiences negative pressures within parts of the system. The Town regularly flushes their water system two times a year. Supervisor Moses stressed the importance of all of us working together on this problem and that the Fire Department and Dave Clark need to set up another drill to see what hydrants work and which ones don’t. Bill Tribou summed it up by stating that there were three things that needed to happen, first - to see how many gallons per minute the water system can handle, seconded - run a drill in the spring with Dave Clark and use one truck to see if they pull any stones out and third talk about flushing system out if we get any stones. Supervisor Moses will contact Matt Abatto from CHA to meet with us to come up with a solution. Councilwoman Phibbs moved to adjourn at 7:21 P.M., seconded by Councilman Whitney; carried. I, Patricia J. Savarie, do hereby certify the foregoing to be a true and correct transcript from the minutes now on file in my office and of the whole such original minutes. Dated: February 5, 2009 Patricia J. Savarie - Town Clerk
